Looking for New Coaching Staff for 2018 Season

Do you love to coach? Do you love roller derby? Do you want to get
involved in an up-and-coming all-star roller derby squad?

Hartford Area Roller Derby’s Hartford Wailers are looking for coaching
staff for their 2018 season, and beyond. The Wailers are aiming toward
WFTDA rank improvement and need a coaching staff to help them achieve
their goals. The season will be upon us soon, and the hope is to have a
coach on board prior to our mid-October tryouts.

Wailers tryouts will be held on Sunday, October 15th, and Monday, October
16th.

Head Coach — Job Description

·         Local CT or New England area resident to serve as coach of an
all-star roller derby team. Applicants who can commit to at least two
years of availability preferred, but not required

·         Coordinate the delegation of responsibilities to team captains,
fellow bench management and/or team officials, and other team members.

·         Develop team roster with fellow coaches or staff, and team captains

·         Design practice plans in consultation with fellow coaches or staff

·         Coach team in 75% of practices (Current practice schedule
includes evenings on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays; subject to change.
Practices held early December through late June)

·         Coach team in 100% of games (including four [4] monthly home
matches, and away bouts as yet to be determined, with possibilities for at
least one tournament, held from February through late June)

·         Give skaters feedback throughout the season

·         Motivate the team

·         Establish rules for the team and oversee the supervision of the
players

·         Participate in monthly HARD Athletics Committee meetings

·         Participate in annual team tryouts

·         Ensure all team members uphold the rules and regulations of
Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), and the bylaws of our
league.

·         Abide by HARD’s bylaws and participate in league meetings and
voting per HARD membership requirements

Head Coach — Qualifications

·         Coaching OR athletic background, with prior roller derby
background, or experience, a plus

·         Strong communication skills

·         Interest in researching the sport of roller derby and staying
up-to-date with the latest strategies

·         Strong interest and commitment to athlete development

·         Strong interest and commitment to team and league development

·         Ability to work with fellow coaching personnel

·         Ability to effectively communicate on-skate and off-skate
requirements to players and administration

·         Availability for practices Sunday nights 5:00p-7:00p, and/or
Monday nights 6:30p-8:30p, and/or Thursday nights 8:00p-10:00p (practices
dates and times are subject to change)­ – if unavailable, then you would
be responsible for finding a suitable replacement

·         Availability to attend home bouts and to travel to away games
throughout the 2018 season
